Elise Mercier is an immigration lawyer at North Star Immigration Law with a practice characterized by a strong commitment to humanitarian advocacy and francophone mobility. Called to the Bar of the NS Barrister's Society and a member of the Barreau du Québec (c.j.c.), Elise offers legal services to a diverse range of clients from her remote office in Montreal.

  • Work Permits: Expert handling of federal and provincial work permit applications under various economic streams.

  • Religious Worker Mobility: Elise is North Star's unofficial "Department of Spirituality".

  • Humanitarian Immigration: Leveraging her background at York University’s Centre for Refugee Studies and student placements at community clinics such as Parkdale Community Legal Services and the Barbra Schlifer Commemorative Clinic to support vulnerable migrants.

  • French-Language Mobility: Assisting French-speaking and bilingual candidates interested in settling outside of Quebec in navigating pathways like the Francophone Mobility Program.

Having lived in Ontario, Nova Scotia, and now Québec, Elise understands the regional nuances of the Canadian immigration landscape. Before joining North Star in 2020, she honed her skills at a boutique immigration firm in Ontario and contributed to academic research in refugee studies.

  • Please note that although Elise lives in Québec and is a member of the Barreau du Québec, she is only permitted to advise on purely federal legal matters in Québec.
